Queen of the carnival - beauty or the beast?

Rio de Janeiro and the carnival - this combination doesn´t need any explanations. Everyone know´s it and everyone has the right to have an own opinion about it. Here is mine.

The "hot" competition of the place to be the queen of the carnival is going on. On thursday night 11th of October there will be semifinals for the 20 candidates of which the queen will be selected 3rd of November.

The criteria for the carnival queen? Nowadays first comes appearance and second samba. Unfortunately the first one matters so much that the second one is  rather trivial. The superficiality of the carnival has become so concrete that it make´s me feel sick. On the link below you may see, how the competitors look like. Beauty contest? Or contest of "who has most silicone, longest hair extension and most expensive personal trainer/can afford hormones". On 2012 you can´t forget that the beauty ideal in Rio de Janeiro´s carnival "theatre" has besides big bottom also huge thighs.

One may say that I´m just jealous. Well, some 10-15 yeras ago I was. At time these candiates were natural beauties, mulatas, with beautiful and harmonious bodies and life devoted to the samba. Nowadays their soul seems to be dedicated to the altar of the plastic surgeries.

I agree that I may be out-of-date, but I miss a lot "the good old times", as the queens of baterias were the best dancers of schools and not any prepaid celebrities. Carnival queens were beautiful ladies, who´s heart beat to the rhythm of samba and famous persons had their own special places on the samba parade.

Língua - language - kieli

I am thinking about the language and it´s meening to people. Yeah, language...what is it actually? Body language, spoken language, otherwise expressed language, chatting, giving 1+ to somehting...? And thinking about the word "language" which in my "language" has two meanings, tongue and language. Thus it is in some other languages as well.

I´m daydreaming being in Brazil, communicating with people with languages I LOVE SO MUCH. I would "sambar", dance, dance the hottest rhythms of samba, express my feelings, let all frustration come out in the deep sound of surdos, repiniques, caixas, chocalhos and tamborins. After having done the most important resetting of my brain, I would use the other common language to express my feelings to my friends. I would be kissing and huging them, getting friendly clapping on my shoulders, showing thumbs-up and opening myself to the people, knowing that they accept me as I am.

We would gather to one huge table for "jantar" (dinner) and eat, eat a lot and thus show to the "dona da casa" that we appreciate what she has done. She would understand our message without spoken words.

Meanwhile, not being able to be in Brazil, I leaf through pictures of Brazil on facebook, put "thumbs-up" signs for my friends' posts and give 1+ in the Google+ for their stories. I "talk" to them and let them know, that I care and think about them, even if we CAN`T actually TALK right now because of the distance.
